The LDS chuch has a good site for preparedness. Kind of a one stop place for information on food and water storage and financial preparedness.

Ian, members of the LDS faith have become somewhat sought after in preps circles. Now, PalousePreps is not religiously affiliated, nor do we discriminate. However, I would love to understand some of what is behind the preparation orientation of your faith.
This is an interesting calculator I ran across a while back...

I am honestly not completely sure of the reasoning behind all of the emphasis toward preparedness other than our prophets have been telling us to make sure that we are prepared. Not necessarily for the end of the world or anything like that but for difficult times that may come.
I think a lot of it is that there is a lot of peace of mind that can come with being prepared. If you have your physical needs met now and in the future you can focus on your spiritual needs and the needs of others.

A friend of mine in Missoula has been taking advantage of the local LDS canning facilities - apparently he was invited to go by a member of the church. He said the facilities were closed to non-members for a long time, but have been reopened because church leadership feels it's better for LDS folks to have prepared neighbors - Mormon or not. Makes sense to me!
Anyway, I'm not LDS, so I'm not sure if the nearest canning facility to the Palouse (Spokane) is open to non-members as well. It might be worth looking into.
Well since I am not LDS I can't say for certain, but I have been reading about this kind of thing on the Glenn Beck insider boards as well. I think you have to be "sponsored" (have to know someone, you can't just walk in.) But that's it.
Well, I'll do some checking on it.

When TSHTF you have a choice of becoming a refugee or a free man. If you are not properly prepared you will definitely become a refugee. The Mormons have been preparing for as long as I can remember. I respect anyone who has the hindsight to prepare for the worst and pray for the best..
Though we are not Mormons we have lived among them with mutual respect.
We purchase our oxygen absorbers, heavy duty 1 gallon Mylar bags and some canned goods from their online store. Prices include shipping and you will be hard pressed to find a better deal on these items.
