Dear P9-12P members,

If you are able to join in this letter writing effort, we'd love to have you come!

4/29 - Wed. 6 - 8 pm - Eastside Marketplace tables
(following Jeff's 5000 Year Leap book handout)

5/2 - Sat. 4 - 8 pm Heather Christianson's home bonus: pizza provided!
(call 338-4775 for directions)

Purpose: To write personal letters expressing thanks and gratitude to each law enforcement officer in Latah and Whitman counties, and distribute personal copies of the US Constitution. Letter samples will be available for those needing a little help with wording.

Letters will be addressed with a generic greeting:
Dear Pullman City Officer
Dear Latah Sheriff Deputy
Dear Idaho State Trooper
etc.

As well as thanking them for their service to the community, we will also encourage them to read the US Constitution, which will be enclosed with each letter. (Thanks for Jeff for the generous donation)

Packets of letters for each department will be dropped off in person during the week of May 4-8, along with homemade cookies or brownies (provided by the Bauer baking team).

Let Paula know (208-596-8725 cell) if you would like to help bake cookies or help with deliveries.

Looking forward to a great time working together on this project!

Please call if you have any questions.

Hi Paula...thank you for all your organizing. I would be glad to bring cookies on Saturday...can I just leave them with Heather? Like 2-3 dozen? Do we need to bring any materials...paper, etc?

Betty,
Would love help with cookies. I don't have a total number of officers yet, but I can imagine we will need at least 10 dozen or more. 2-3 dozen will be lovely...whatever you want to do will be appreciated. Bringing it to Heather's is perfect. I'll be there too and look forward to meeting you.

If you have a favorite pen, bring it! (I'll have my fav - my retractable zebra - close at hand)

We'll provide paper (hopefully stationery or 8.5 x 11 sheets with a flag or a patriotic theme), pens, envelopes and constitutions.

Thanks for asking and for your help. As always, it's a team effort...everyone's contribution is important and needed.

Well, we got off to a slow start. Thanks to Robyn G. (RobyninIdaho) for helping out last night at Eastside Marketplace.

Here's the scope of this project:

170 handwritten letters for all law enforcement officers in Whitman/Latah counties. We could type out a form letter, but you know how much you enjoy similar form letters from your elected officials. We want these public servants to experience a more personal touch from our group.
30 dozen home baked cookies (2 for each x 175+)
personal delivery to 11 depts from Lewiston to Colfax
donations to include a copy of 5000 Year Leap for each Chief ($7.50 each - the Bauer family will cover this if no one else can help)

Help with any aspect of the project is needed - here's a chance to get involved. It is being done in the name of Palouse 9-12 Project as a group and not as individuals, so the more hands to share the load the better!
People are busy and give as they are able, but it's easy to assume that someone else will do it instead of getting personally involved.

We meet in Pullman at Heather Christianson's home this Saturday (5/2) from 4 - 8 pm. Pizza, beverages & great fellowship await...come join us!
Call Heather for directions (338-4475 ) Even a hour will help; you don't have to stay the entire time.

Call or email if you have any questions or can help with cookie baking or other needs.

I'm sorry I didn't make it, I finished work that day, and pretty much forgot about anything else.

Did the party get it all done?, Quite a feat if you got half of it done.

We finished about 60 letters by Saturday at 8 when we called it quits.

Heather is a letter-writing machine! Thanks also to Jlafer, Bboop1934 and Tygria for their great help. They all took blank stationery home to work on additional letters. We plan to make deliveries to Colfax/Pullman on Thurs. and Moscow/Lewiston on Friday-- if we get the final 60 letters written by then.

The hardest thing about it? Not being able to visit as much as we would have liked - you can't talk and write very well! Thanks, Heather and Chad, for the pizza (and for letting me soak up a lil' baby lovin, too!)

Would not refuse help with cookie baking if anyone was to offer assistance. :) (give me a ring at 882-4945 / 208-596-8725) Again, thanks to Heather and Betty for lightening the baking load considerably.

And if you believe in the power of prayer, please remember to pray for these area law enforcement officers, that God would keep them all safe in the line of duty, and that they would feel blessed and supported by this outreach effort from our group.

Paula,

My daughter and I can bake some cookies. Would Wednesday be a good day to bake and get them to you or one of the other folks making the deliveries? I was thinking 3 dozen.

I appreciate you stepping up to the plate!

3 Dozen would be great - if you want to drop them off at Heather's house by Wed. evening, that would work perfect.

Thanks so much for your participation on all levels! And tell your daughter 'thanks' for me too.

blessings,
Paula B.

Thought you all might like to see the 'presentation'. Not all of the boxes were this full, of course. Some department got boxes half this size. Great job, cookie bakers!

[UPDATE 5/09: All deliveries made except to Colton's Marshall - the City Hall office is closed on Fridays. I will make a special trip over on Monday - unless someone on P9-12P drives through Colton and could make the delivery - if so, call me 208-596-8725]

Well...my kids and I delivered letters, Constitutions and cookies to Palouse Police, Colfax Police & Whitman Sheriff today.

We tried to deliver them to the Washington State Patrol with Bboop1934, but the office was closed when we arrived. Betty did that delivery on her own once they opened.

We then drove to Pullman and made a deliver to Pullman Police Department with Heather Christianson and wee one, before we all headed across the parking lot to Pullman City Hall to pray. (That was really a blessing - even though it was small.)

Then the kids and I drove to WSU Campus Police and make the final drop today. We even got Jr. Officer badges -- I'm wearing mine to the Memorial Day Eat-n-Chat! :D

Tomorrow we will be at Moscow Police Station at 11 am to make a drop there. Anyone who is able to join us would be welcome...would love to have a dozen people! We'll swing by Latah Sheriff after that, then head to Lewiston, then make our final drop at Colton on our way home.

Again, great teamwork by Jlafer, Heather Christianson, RobyninIdaho, Bboop1934, Tygria, plus my daughter and son (and Jeff for the donated pocket constitutions)! These folks made a major effort on this project - 175 handwritten letters in addition to 32 dozen homemade cookies. If you know them or meet them, be sure to thank them. It was done in the name of all Palouse 9-12 Project members, and you were very well represented.

As you think of it, please pray that God will use this outreach to encourage, bless and build up our local law enforcement officers, that they would read the pocket constitutions and find them insightful and helpful in their duties.

Thanks!

Paula B.
