www.efoodsdirect.com (http://www.efoodsdirect.com) is the best place I have found for food, it is cheap and it is great I have a few years supply for me and my family it tastes good too, and alot of variety, also it lasts like 10 years in non climate control longer in climate control just some good fyi for everyone also, www.survivalistseeds.com (http://www.survivalistseeds.com) is a great seed site, you can always have food but it will run out with seeds that are non-hybrid and non-gmo you can grow an endless supply

The idea of saving seeds to replant is great - until you investigate a bit further and discover that to avoid cross pollination in your seeds, you need 1000 ft. between plants of the same family. Otherwise, your saved seeds will yield cross-bred plants - 'pumpki-melons' and 'Brocci-flower' to name a few.
broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, etc. will cross pollinate
Pumpkins, squash, melon and I think cucumbers also will cross pollinate.
different varieties of corn, beans and tomatoes will cross-pollinate with each other varieties of the same, yielding a mixed product, not the same varieties you originally planted.

On a practical level, saving your own seeds to re-plant is more complicated than it sounds!

I don't know a whole lot about it, just discovered the info on a heritage seed site. They recommend separation of 1000 feet for good results and 1 mile to insure seed purity. Which makes it impractical for most home gardeners.

Anybody have other insight or info to offer on this subject? I'm still learning, but am feeling a bit deflated with how much is required to save your own seeds.

Hey I am glad you brought that up, I teach survival gardening which is how to grow your plants in "hidden" places and those are of course seperated so yes you do need to seperate, I wouldn't grow a garden in your back yard, nor would I try to have a major harvest on your land.
Especialy in a survival situation.
