Hi there! OK...about me. I am a Pullman native and divorced father of three who returned home this year after 25 years away. There were a dozen years in Seattle followed by a dozen in the People's Republic of Boulder (Colorado). Boulder is also a university town, somewhat like Pullman - a sweet liberal filling in the center covered by a traditional conservative outer shell.

I got active in the liberty movement during the start of the Ron Paul campaign. My kids thought I was nuts with the weekly meetings and sign-wavings and letters to the editor. But I tell them that someday, the historians might just mention Ron Paul as one of the re-founding fathers. We had good success in Boulder: 250 members in the meetup group and a number of delegates elected to county and district levels for the state convention.

My occupation is software development and my avocation is Austrian economics. As an engineer, the teachings of von Mises and Hayek make immediate, logical sense. One thing led to another and soon I was questioning my political thinking (McCain Republicanism). I remember getting out my copy of the Constitution and thinking, "This does not even sound like our present government!" Hayek, RP and GB really opened my eyes.

The primmary focus of my efforts is education and advocacy. I'm currently working on a combination eBook/blog on economics and politics aimed at the average person. The idea is that the blog, on current events, will complement and refer readers to the eBook which contains the underlying theory. We'll see.

As for other activities, until my lower back started having trouble, I was a distance runner and golfer. Today I have to be satisfied with an exercise bike. Yechh! I also help out a bit with the WSU Men's Rowing team. (Cheap plug here: if you need help with any errands that require a bunch of strong college guys, check out the "Rent-a-Rower" program at cougarcrew.com. April 19 is the last weekend until fall.) In June I plan to begin work on building a wood boat.

That's it. Looking forward to meeting and working with other liberty-seekers!
John

McCain Republicanism = oxymoron

No, wait... that would be "McCain Conservatism." After the last 8 years it's pretty clear to me that the word "Republican" is no longer synonymous with "Conservative."

Sad but true.

Welcome, John!

It is great to have you on board! I think most of us have at one time or another graduated from our Republican status as we discovered that there is not enough difference between them and their supposed alternate party!
